The Institute for University-School Partnership at the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration at Yeshiva University is committed to helping the Jewish day school community ensure that day schools are as affordable as possible without compromising the quality of educational programs. The Institute is partnering with the day school community in support of this objective on two fronts: a school front and a communal front. This paper will focus on steps that schools can adopt to address affordability issues. Future papers will focus on communal opportunities to enhance affordability. Our experience working with many schools strongly suggests that individual day schools have the potential to generate a 5% of gross revenue improvement in their financial condition by taking advantage of the affordability toolkit described below. This improvement may well represent a combination of revenue generation and expense reduction depending on the specific condition of the school.
