ODS Announcement

The YU School Partnership is pleased to announce.......

The launch of the Open Day School!

Building the Capacity of Jewish Schools

in Online/Blended Learning

The Open Day School (ODS) is a collaboration with Jewish educators and schools to create open-source Judaic courseware for fully online and blended courses, while building their capacity to implement Online/Blended learning. ODS is a project of the Yeshiva University School Partnership, a leading organization in Jewish education. ODS will leverage the YUSP certificate program in online/blended instruction and design funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation that will provide professional development and course building support for Jewish educators this year.

ODS is committed to:

  • 21st century learning and working with Jewish educational institutions on meeting the needs of 21st century students
  • Global collaboration and access to Jewish education
  • Student engagement, inspiration, learning and excellence
  • Quality student centered course design
  • Teacher support, professional development and teacher certification
  • Standards for online/blended Jewish education
  • Jewish diversity, Torah values, and tradition

ODS will be opening its doors in the fall of 2012. The first phase of ODS will focus on professional development, community building and course development. ODS will begin with the formation of the Advisory Committee, which will be made up of leaders in the field of Jewish education interested in furthering this important area of learning. We will also launch the ODS website for educators interested in online/blended learning in Jewish education. This website will host materials, resources and the ODS community. The ODS community will be open to all Jewish educators who want to engage in discussions about online/blended learning, share ideas and work together with the ODS staff to continue building this groundbreaking initiative. Additionally, as part of the YU School Partnership certificate program in online/blended instruction and design funded by the Jim Joseph foundation, a cohort of Jewish educators who have chosen to develop their skills in this area will begin a year-long training program in the instruction and development of courses. Each educator in the program will be developing a course for their school and the field. These courses will be made available on ODS in the summer of 2013.

We are pleased to welcome these leaders in Jewish education to the ODS Advisory Committee and look forward to announcing further partners in the upcoming weeks.
