NEW PRISM ISSUE! VOLUME 4
PRISM is an interdisciplinary journal for Holocaust educators produced by YU's Azrieli Graduate School. It is a tremendous resource for the classroom and in developing lesson plans and educational events for Holocaust study on Yom Hashoa and all year round.
Volume 4 examines the various ways in which Jews acted in response to the slow and systematic humiliation, separation, exclusion, deprivation, ghettoization, internment, slave labor, and, ultimately, the destruction of their communities and the deportation and murder of their friends and families. This issue examines the complexities involved in Jewish religious, spiritual, and physical resistance during the Holocaust and concludes that the question should not be why there was so little resistance but how there was so much.
Throughout the journal, there are units built around topics that can focus a lesson. For example, the unit around Chaver Paver's short story, "The Boxing Match" (pp.32-33). This unit contains the short story, a literary analysis by YU School Partnership's very own Eitan Novick, and a pedagogical analysis of how the story can be used in class discussion by Emily Amie Witty.
